Devlog 2: Player controls and camera switching


Player controls

The player can control a police officer who is investigating reports of screaming coming from a mansion. The player moves around using WASD. The police officer comes equipped with a pistol that the player can use to kill monsters. The gun is aimed by holding down right click, and then shoots by pressing left click. Due to the fixed camera perspective, the player will automatically aim at the closest enemy within a specified radius so it is not too difficult to aim. The player can aim up or down to try shoot at shorter enemies or to hit head shots. The pistol has a mag size of 10 and the player must press R to reload (ammo is required). The cubes that the player shoots in the video below represent the enemies for the time being.

Camera switching

I have implemented dynamic camera switching. The camera will switch angles when the player moves into different rooms to recreate how the camera design worked in older horror games from the PS1. This will help make the game more scary as I can position the camera to prevent the player from seeing around corners.

Added Sourced assets

I next plan on adding the item and inventory system to the game, so stay tuned!
